Description:  Join us this Memorial Day as we gather at one of the East Bay's most beloved spots to honor our friend and longtime club member, Leonard Gabriele. Leonard was a calming presence on the trail, a source of quiet positivity, and someone whose love of trails touched everyone who hiked with him. Leonard embodied everything we love about this club — the joy of being outdoors, the camaraderie of a good walk with friends, and a deep appreciation for places and nature. While small in stature, his impact and legacy are bigger than most. This easy lakeside stroll is our way of celebrating his life and the spirit he brought to every hike.

The walk around Lake Merritt is open to all — and yes, bring your dogs! Leonard would have wanted it that way.

Come ready to share a memory, enjoy the company of our hiking community.

Bring / Wear:  Bring water, good walking shoes, (the "trail" is paved), hat, sunscreen, and lunch (if you wish to eat with us afterward).

Rain Policy:  The hike will be cancelled only if there is heavy rain.  Check with the hike leaders for any updates.

Dogs:  Woof, yes!  

But it is an urban hike, so you will need to keep your dog on leash.

• SF Meeting Location:  Whole Foods (map) @ 2001 Market Street.  Meet on the Dolores Street side.  There's parking on the street or below the building.

SF Meeting Time:  9:30 AM (departure shortly thereafter).

Carpool Fee per passenger:  $5.00

Round Trip Distance: 26 miles

• East Bay Meeting Location:  19th Street BART station.  Meet at the 20th St. Exit. We will walk ten minutes to the starting point at Snow Park.

East Bay Meeting Time:  9:45 AM (departure shortly thereafter).

NOTE:  Please only show up at Whole Foods if you have a ride arranged ahead of time (see Carpool Fee below).

• TRAILHEAD MEETING LOCATION:  We will meet at Snow Park, Oakland (Lakeside & Harrison). Closest parking is on Harrison or 19th St. 

Trailhead Meeting Time:  10:00 AM

NOTE:  We'll reach out to those registered who have indicated that they need/want a ride or can take passengers.  If you need to contact me for whatever reason, please do so before Sunday @ 3:00 PM the day before the hike.
