SF: Whole Foods;  2001 Market St. @ Dolores (on the Dolores St. side); parking on the street or below.
Rockridge BART: Bottom of escalator.

Elevation Gain: 1450'

Description: This is a great hike for a warm day - almost entirely shaded.  It includes a visit to the top of Pilot Knob with some of the best views from the mountain.  If the day is particularly hot we can opt to scratch this one section.  We'll be in the redwoods a good part of the hike.  We'll begin on the upper part of Crown Rd. in Kentfield, dropping down to Phoenix Lake.  Once at the lake we'll walk along the totally shaded section on Gertrude Ord Trail, with views of the lake the entire way.  Soon we'll climb up the Fish Camp Trail in deep redwoods.  After a restroom break in the Lake Lagunitas parking lot, we'll walk around that lake.  The trek up to Pilot Knob may be next, weather permitting.  Towards the end of the hike we'll be on the always beautiful Tucker Trail which descends through the redwoods.  

Dogs are permitted throughout the Marin Water District.

IF THE TEMPERATURE IS PARTICULARLY HOT, OR IF MARIN COUNTY HAS ISSUED A RED FLAG WARNING I'LL POST AN ALTERNATE HIKE. PLENTY OF ADVANCE NOTICE WILL BE GIVEN.

Bring / Wear:  Please bring plenty of water, bug repellent, sunscreen, lunch, snacks, sturdy hiking shoes and hiking poles if you use them.  And chocolate!

Weather Policy:  Check with hikeleader in the event of questionable weather.

Trailhead Meeting Place: We'll meet across from 123 Crown Road, Kentfield.
Take the San Anselmo/Sir Francis Drake Blvd exit off of 101.  Turn left onto College Ave, and after about 2 blocks turn right onto Woodland, and almost immediately another right onto Goodhill Rd.  Stay on Goodhill until Crown Rd.  Park anywhere along the house side.  We'll be returning farther up the street.  Google Maps Link

Total driving distance, there and back: 40 miles from SF; 50 from Rockridge.
