Rating:  Level 5

Mileage: 15.1 miles

Elevation Gain: 4547'

Description: This event is limited to five participants AND an attempt to see who is interested in backpacking trips.

This is not a beginning backpack! Please only register if you have experience and equipment. The loop is challenging, but we'll be hiking all the miles and elevation over four days. This is a beautiful trail. We'll be following the AllTrails Salmon Creek, Cruikshank, Buckeye Trail Loop. Rather than trying to describe it, you can read the description, see photos, and read the reviews on AllTrails.

Bring/Wear:  Sturdy hiking boots, hiking poles if you use them, clean clothes for the drive and layered clothing for the hike; backpack; tent, sleeping bag, & mattress pad; camp stove, 3 dinners, 4 lunches, and 3 breakfasts; water filter, trowel for sanitation. The hike leader can provide a more detailed list, but I recommend that the pack weigh no more than 45 lbs. Dogs are allowed, but must be on leash or under voice control.

Rain Policy: Cancelled in the event of heavy rain.

Trailhead Meeting Place: The direct route to the trailhead is still closed due to ongoing repair work on Highway 1 south of Big Sur. The driving distance is 255 miles by way of US 101 to Paso Robles, Highway 46 to Cambria, and Highway 1 north to Salmon Creek and the estimated driving time is between four and five hours depending on traffic. Google Maps Link

Trailhead Meeting Time:  1:00 PM (Note there is no cell phone service on  Highway 1. If you are running late or have to cancel please text before reaching Highway 1.)

Trailhead Departure Time:  1:15 PM (ideally)

Driving Distance: 265-267 miles one way depending on optimal route through bay area and starting point around Oakland/Berkeley/SF.

Passenger Carpool Fee: $67
