Description We will meet at the base of the Tanglewood Steps at 10:00 am and hike up the Stonewall-Panoramic Trail, UC East-West Trail, and cross Strawberry Canyon on the Upper Jordan Fire Trail to the Math Sciences Research Institute. From there we will descend to the Lawrence Hall of Science with one of the most dramatic views from the Berkeley Hills descending further on the streets and public paths of Berkeley. We will then cross the campus and return to our starting point. Most of the elevation gain is in the first few miles and is quite steep. Hiking poles and sturdy hiking boots are recommended. Depending on recent weather, there may be one area of very slippery mud where we cross from Claremont Canyon to the Jordan Fire Road. A shorter loop is possible although the total elevation won’t change much. If I can’t find a co-leader, I can provide a detailed map.

Bring / Wear:  Lunch, water, layered clothing, sunscreen and a hat, sturdy hiking boots and hiking poles if you use them (the first part of the hike is quite steep).

Rain Policy:  Canceled in the event of heavy rain.

Dog Policy: Dogs are allowed off leash in the regional park and on leash in the City of Berkeley and on the university campus.

TRAILHEAD MEETING PLACE:  We will meet at theTanglewood Path at Tanglewood Road.

Trailhead Meeting Time:  10:00 AM, departing at 10:15.

Total Driving Distance (round trip):  28 miles (SF), 4 miles (Rockridge BART).

Passenger Carpool Fees :  $6 (SF) or $1 (Rockridge BART).
