Description: We will tour three new crown jewels of the San Francisco Park system. We will start at Salesforce Park, a modern wonder home to 600 trees and 16,000 plants among the skyscrapers. From there, we will head east to the Embarcadero. We will walk south along the waterfront with beautiful views of the Bay Bridge and the Ferry Building until we come to China Basin Park, just a stone’s throw from the home of the San Francisco Giants. According to San Francisco Chronicle writer John King, “San Francisco has another great new park — and this one’s on China Basin.” We will continue south to Crane Cove Park, a seven-acre bayfront park in the Dogpatch neighborhood. The Dogpatch was once an industrial center for shipbuilding – home to Bethlehem Steel and Union Iron Works. In the post-war era, the neighborhood fell into industrial blight with little appeal to residents or visitors. Crane Cove Park, with its welcoming sandy beach, is proof of how far the City has come in reclaiming the natural beauty of the San Francisco Bay. Eventually, we will make our way back across the City to Salesforce Park.
