Description: Sanborn County Park is a lushly wooded park of over 3400 acres. Exposed on the steep eastern slopes of the Santa Cruz Mountains, it claims one of the coolest summer climates of Santa Clara County's parks.  Towering second growth redwoods, Coast live oak, Pacific madrone, Big leaf maple and Tanbark oak will keep the majority of this hike in shade.  The park is home to the only outdoor summer Shakespeare company in Silicon Valley.  We'll pass it at the very beginning of the hike and then again as we return to our cars. We'll begin at the Sequoia Parking area and do most of our elevation gain within the first three miles.  After that it's a level walk along the ridge to Indian Rock where we'll have lunch and then downhill to the cars.  I'm not sure that the club has ever hiked Sanborn Park, so for many it will be a new location to discover. Here's a LINK to the proposed trail route.

Bring / Wear: Lots of water, good hiking shoes, sun protection, bug spray, lunch, and snacks.  Most of this hike is shaded.

Weather Policy: Hike will be canceled if there is heavy rain or heavy smoke.

Pet Policy for this hike: Sanborn County Park is not dog friendly.

Meeting Options:

• SF Meeting Location:  Whole Foods (map) @ 2001 Market Street.  Meet on the Dolores Street side.  There's parking on the street or below the building.

SF Meeting Time:  8:45 AM (departure shortly thereafter).

• East Bay Meeting Location:  Rockridge BART station (map).  Meet at the bottom of the escalators.  There's free and ample parking.

East Bay Meeting Time:  8:30 AM (departure shortly thereafter).

Not a member of the SFHC and want to join this hike? Contact the hikeleader so we know you're joining us and to arrange for ride-sharing (if needed).  Non-members are required to sign a release of liability form before participating in the hike.

NOTE: I'll reach out to those registered who have indicated that they need/want a ride or can take passengers.  If you need to contact me for whatever reason, please do so before Friday @ 3:00 PM the day before the hike.  Please only show up at Whole Foods or the Rockridge BART station if you have a ride arranged ahead of time Please note Carpool Fees below.
