Meeting Location: Whole Foods;  2001 Market St. @ Dolores (on the Dolores St. side); parking on the street or below.
Please only show up at Whole Foods if you've arranged to meet your ride or driver there.

Description: This Thursday tour is more like a minus-Level-1 stroll than a hike, but it makes for a memorable outing nevertheless! Joining the other people on the tour, we’ll listen to a ranger talk about the history of the lighthouse and its keepers – and he or she may even treat us to a song or two to set the mood! We’ll make a short, but spectacular walk down the spine of land reaching out into the Golden Gate. After passing through a hand-carved tunnel, we’ll cross a small suspension bridge with sheer drops on either side to reach the lighthouse. Once there, we’re free to wander around and watch the sun go down. Because we’ll be on the point a little after sunset, we should have a chance to see the lighthouse’s Fresnel lens in action. Pets aren’t allowed.

In the event of extreme wind the tour will take place but the bridge out to the lighthouse will be closed.  Entrance to the trail to the lighthouse, usually open and free, will be closed to those not on the tour.

To go on the walk you'll need to register on our website first, then purchase your ticket.  Tickets go on sale 2 weeks prior:  June 8, at 7AM.   There are a maximum of 32 tickets available.  Please order yours early!

Bring/Wear: Layers, layers, and more layers! The weather could be anywhere from divine to devilish! Also bring a flashlight or headlamp to help light the way on our return to the trailhead.

Trailhead Meeting Place: We'll meet at the Point Bonita Lighthouse Parking Lot.  If you're coming from the city or south of the city, take the Alexander Ave. exit just past the Vista Point north of the bridge.  Turn left on Bunker Road to go through the one-way Baker-Barry Tunnel.  Stay on Bunker Road until just before the Headlands Visitor Center where you turn left onto Field Road.  Stay on this until you reach the lot at the end of the road.  Google Maps link

Trailhead Meeting Time:  7:00 PM  Please arrive in time to register and in case the main lot is full.

Trailhead Departure Time:  7:15 PM

Driving Distance to and from SF: 23 miles.
