FOR THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN VACCINATED AND ARE COMFORTABLE SHARING A RIDE, WE CAN MEET AT THE BELOW LOCATION (BUT PLEASE REGISTER FIRST SO THAT WE KNOW TO MEET YOU THERE):

Meeting Location (unless you've arranged for a ride): Whole Foods;
        2001 Market St. @ Dolores; parking on the street or below.

Meeting Time: 8:40 AM

Departure Time: 8:55 AM

Rating:  Level 4

Mileage: 10 miles

Elevation Gain: 1800'

Description:  This hike begins with a broad trail going gently uphill along the creek, through ferns and redwoods, then gradually steepens. It crosses the creek to wind its way through redwood-covered ravines on the Craig Britton Trail, until it breaks out into open sky and beautiful ocean views. A steady uphill stretch brings us to lunch, then we return via Whittemore Gulch. The trail approaches the head of this ravine gradually, then plunges via a sequence of switchbacks into the Gulch, following the stream to the trailhead.

San Mateo County has relaxed restrictions and is currently in Tier Orange -- details here. Many of us have even greater freedom because of being vaccinated. Even so, some of us, and other hikers as well, will not be vaccinated, or will prefer distance and mask use in the hikers they pass. The usual precautions -- distance from others and the use of masks -- will reduce risk to all of us.

Masks and distancing are still required.

PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU NEED A RIDE AND/OR CAN TAKE A PASSENGER, AND WHAT YOUR COMFORT LEVEL IS REGARDING PASSENGERS.

Bring/Wear:  Bring plenty of water, lunch &  layers for a spring hike.  Hiking poles would be useful. And your MASK.

Rain Policy: Please contact the hikeleader if there's any question.

Alternate Meeting Place:  We'll meet at the trailhead just south of Half Moon Bay.  Ongoing construction is blocking direct access to Higgins Canyon Road (the usual route to the trailhead) but Higgins Canyon Road can be accessed by turning left off of CA-1 onto Seymour Street before Higgins Canyon Road, then right on Main Street, then left onto Higgins Canyon Road behind the construction. An alternative is to drive four miles past Higgins Canyon Road and turn left onto Purissima Creek Road. Both end up at the tiny parking lot.  It is often full, the reason for our early meeting time.  You can also park along the road.
