Meeting Place: We'll meet at the Sierra Trail trailhead on Panoramic Hwy. Exit US 101 at the Mill Valley/Stinson Beach exit. Turn left at Tam Junction to stay on Hwy 1. At the split, Hwy 1 stays straight; you should go right at the fork onto Panoramic. At a big intersection on the ridge (Four Corners) stay straight to continue up Panoramic. Stay on Panoramic for a bit over 2.5 miles. Look for several pullouts, mostly on the left. G-Maps link: https://goo.gl/maps/98ZzewLu2Pi5u3D36
Rating: Level 4
Mileage: 10.5 miles
Elevation Gain: 1900 ft
Description: (IF IT'S TOO HOT OR IF THERE'S SMOKE OR FIRE DANGER THE ROUTE MAY CHANGE). We'll begin by hiking past Mountain Theater. We'll take a completely senseless route that takes us to Barth's Retreat and Potrero Meadows, up and over Ridgecrest, down to West Point Inn and eventually all the way down to Muir Woods briefly. The Sierra Trail brings us back to the starting point. We'll be passing through almost all of Mt. Tam's varied landscapes: dense redwoods, oak and madrone woodland and some of the most beautiful serpentine you've ever seen.
Marin County has relaxed its group-size restrictions. But all of the usual directives, masks, distancing..... MUST be followed. These initial hikes will be limited to 12 people (sorry!) Below are the regulations:
Bring/Wear: Lots of water!!, sturdy hiking shoes, lunch, snacks, sunscreen and your MASK.
Rain Policy: Hike will take place but may be altered if either smoke or heat is extreme.
Driving Distance: 37 miles total there and back
Car Pool Fees Including Bridge Toll: $7
