TAHOE SKI WEEKEND @ ROYAL GORGE

Event leader: Mark Kelleher   kelleher.mark@yahoo.com
Join a cross-country ski weekend Friday, Feb 7-Sun Feb 9 (two nights)!   Whether you’re an “old pro” or have never X-C skied, you’ll find every option at the Royal Gorge Cross Country Ski Resort (
https://www.royalgorge.com/home) near Truckee in the brilliantly beautiful North Lake Tahoe region – including no pressure beginner ski lessons with rental equipment included. Most guests at Royal Gorge rent equipment for the day.  This center also provides a supply shop and a café for breakfast, lunch and après-ski libations.

If you'd like to join us, please register first: https://www.sfhiking.com/event-3678832/Registratioin. Then reserve a hotel room at the Truckee Donner Lodge near Royal Gorge: (http://www.truckeedonnerlodge.com). Don’t delay. Approximately 8-10 rooms are currently available at about $175 per night per person (half that cost for double occupancy). Nightly rates include a full complimentary hot & cold breakfast.

For those who arrive on Friday night, and again on Saturday night, optional group dinners will be planned at modestly priced restaurants in Truckee.  We’ll also plan wine & cheese gatherings in the hotel’s lounge, featuring a roaring fireplace, on both Friday and Saturday before dinner.

On Saturday morning the group will head to Royal Gorge for several hours of skiing, mostly on green-marked (moderate) trails that wind through the scenic forests, up and over mild inclines and across promontories with big views of Tahoe area lakes and mountains.  Royal Gorge does offer extensive blue (difficult) and black (most difficult) cross-country trails as well.  Sunday skiing or snow-shoeing is optional.  Day skiers typically pack lunch, snacks and beverages when out on the trail; and the group will eat lunch near or in one of the many warming huts dotting the terrain.  Expect to ski approximately 10km (about 6 miles) if out for a few hours.

Please send any questions to the trip organizer: Mark Kelleher, Kelleher.mark@yahoo.com
