Description: We'll meander through hills, ridges and secluded glens on the monolithic San Bruno Mountain on SF's southern edge. San Bruno Mountain still has much terrain covered with native vegetation of the San Francisco area before Europeans arrived. It is an isolated and peaceful bit of wilderness at the edge of the City that surprisingly sees few visitors. We'll begin this Figure 8 trail from the parking lot and head out on the Saddle Loop and Old Guadalupe Trails to arrive back at the parking lot. From there we'll hike to the trail head for the Summit Loop Trail, and traverse the Eucalyptus Loop and Dairy Ravine Trails to reconnect with the Summit Loop Trail. Just before the top we will turn onto the Ridge Trail and head out and back along the Southeast Ridge, where we will be peering down the runways at SFO. Finally, we will descend from the top along the remainder of the Summit Loop Trail and return to the parking lot.
Bring/Wear: Lots of water, lunch, layers of clothing for sun, cold, fog, wind, good hiking shoes/boots, a hat and trekking poles if you wish
Rain Policy: Canceled in the event of heavy rain
Driving Distance: 10 miles each way.
Total Bridge Tolls and Entry Fees: None
Passenger Carpool Fee: $5.00
Alternative Meeting Place: At the northern portion of the parking lot just inside the entry kiosk. From Bayshore Blvd in Brisbane turn onto Guadalupe Canyon Pkwy and head up the hill approximately 2.2 miles. Turn right into the parking lot. (Take caution, the parking lot comes up VERY fast!).
