Description: This ridgetop hike is a figure-eight of two 5-mile loops. The first loop leaves north from the Russian Ridge parking lot and takes the Ancient Oaks, Hawk Ridge, and Bay Area Ridge Trails to Borel Hill, San Mateo County’s highest peak (2600 ft), for a 360 degree view of the Bay, the Pacific, the Peninsula, Big Basin, and the San Andreas Fault looking south at Black Mountain in Santa Clara County. Returning through the parking lot, the second loop heads south past Alpine Pond on Butano View and Sunny Jim Trails to Horseshoe Lake, then returns on Sunny Jim and Ipiwa Trails.

Bring/Wear: Lunch, water (at least one liter), hat, sunscreen. Hiking shoes recommended.

Rain Policy: Canceled in the event of heavy rain

Driving Distance: 91 miles total, there and back.

Alternative Meeting Place #1: Meet leader at Russian Ridge OSP parking lot. Directions: I-280 South to Page Mill Rd exit (in Los Altos Hills), immediate right onto Page Mill Rd. Go west 7 miles up windy Page Mill, cross Skyline Blvd onto Alpine Rd and turn right into the parking lot.
