Description: Leader will not be present; form casual carpools. Once upon a time, hikers wanting miles of level coastal bluff trails had to travel to Sonoma or Mendocino County. Cowell-Purisima Coastal Trail, opened in the summer of 2011, now provides this in our backyard. Tucked between the Pacific Ocean and the western slope of the Santa Cruz Mountains, it offers spectacular views of the ocean, offshore rocks, inaccessible beaches favored by harbor seals and shorebirds. Lunch will be at a bluff-top promontory. Sorry, no dogs are allowed due to adjacent fields of artichokes, Brussels sprouts, and mustard.
Bring / Wear: Lunch, water (at least one liter), hat, sunscreen, and the usual layers for beach weather. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended for this well groomed trail.

Alternate Meeting Place #1: Meet leader at Cowell Ranch Beach Trailhead parking lot at 10:15am. NOTE: this is NOT Purisima Creek Redwoods in the hills near Skyline Blvd; it is the relatively new trail along the bluffs south of Half Moon Bay. I-280 S to CA-92W (toward Half Moon Bay). Go west 7 miles, left onto Highway 1, south 3 miles to parking lot on right. Lot is small, but there is plenty of parking along Highway 1.
